Position: Seasonal Snow Remover – temporary fixed term contract November 15, 2024 through to approximately April 15, 2025
Commitment: Casual based – work is as required and dependent on weather; no guarantee of any minimum number of hours

POSITION SUMMARY:
Reporting to the Building and Property Coordinator, the Seasonal Snow Remover will ensure that the parish and adjacent municipal sidewalks are cleared from snow and salted as required to maintain safe access for all staff, parishioners and visitors.
SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
- Shovel/mechanically remove snow and salt sidewalks and stairs when required, including:
- Prior to refugee office opening: 8:30 a.m. Monday to Friday
- Noon hour masses: 12:00 p.m. Wednesday to Friday
- Community meal: 5:00 p.m. Friday
- Saturday evening mass: 5:00 p.m.
- Sunday masses: 12:00 p.m. and 5:00 p.m.
- Other parish events as required
NOTE: City of Windsor sidewalks must be clear and salted within 4 hours after the snowfall has ended.
- Manage inventory of snow removal and ice management supplies, advise Coordinator of ordering needs and ensure proper storage of supplies.
- Ensure all snow removal equipment is kept in good order.
- Complete the Snow Removal log as required.
- Report concerns (safety and/or other) to Coordinator in a timely manner.
QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS:
- Minimum of a secondary school diploma or an acceptable in Ontario equivalent
- Ability to safely operate a gas-powered snow blower including refueling and minor maintenance.
- Ability to manually move and shovel snow in a safe and efficient manner using both gas powered equipment and manual snow shovels.
- Ability to work flexible days and hours, including holidays, to meet the needs of the parish as determined by the weather.
- Understanding of and the willingness and ability to follow the requirements of the Occupational Health and Safety Act of Ontario, applicable Regulations and/or the instructions, policies and procedures of the Diocese of London. Use and/or wear appropriate safety gear and/or personal protective equipment as required by the employer.
- Effective and strong interpersonal and verbal communication skills.
- Understanding of and a supportive attitude towards the mission of the Roman Catholic Diocese of London is necessary.
- A police record check deemed suitable by the Diocese of London may be required of the successful candidate.
Please note: All new staff are required to complete on-line mandatory training available in English or French. Basic computer and reading proficiency to successfully complete this education is required.
